Lincolnshire FA Statement on County Senior Cup Semi-Final Scheduling
Following the rearrangement of the County Senior Cup Semi Final fixture between Cleethorpes Town and Stamford AFC, we feel it necessary to provide transparency regarding the matter.
As part of the annual competition planning process, which took place in May last year, all clubs agreed upon competition round dates, ensuring flexibility and ownership over when fixtures would take place. Once both teams had completed their quarter-final matches, and the Semi Final fixtures were drawn back in November, discussions were held, and a mutually agreed date for the semi-final was confirmed between both competing teams for Tuesday 11th February.
Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, the scheduled semi-final was postponed. Following this, Lincolnshire FA engaged in discussions with both clubs to explore possible solutions. However, rescheduling the fixture beyond the competition’s rules was not a viable option. This is to ensure fairness and equal treatment to all our County Cup competitions, regardless of whether they're Senior or Youth.
Whilst a date in March was put forward as an possible option this was considered too close to the final as the risk of further postponement could have caused significant disruption to the competition. Additionally, Lincolnshire FA liaised with the Northern Premier League to request permission for Cleethorpes Town to rearrange a league fixture to accommodate the semi-final. As is their right, this request was declined.
We fully understand that playing the semi-final on a Thursday evening is not ideal, especially with the congestion of fixtures during that period for both teams. However, both clubs expressed their commitment to remaining in the competition and agreed to the revised date. They also confirmed that they would field competitive squads, incorporating players from across their clubs.
Lincolnshire FA appreciates that the situation isn't ideal, however highly value and appreciates the cooperation of all involved and remains committed to delivering a fair and successful competition for all participating teams.
