Lincolnshire FA Offers Free Football v Homophobia Workshops for Clubs

Clubs are being offered the opportunity to host an in-person workshop during February for Football v Homophobia Month of Action

Lincolnshire FA is proud to support the Football v Homophobia (FvH) Month of Action this February by offering clubs the opportunity to host an in-person workshop focused on promoting inclusion in football.

The workshops, delivered by Lincolnshire FA, aim to educate players, coaches, and club officials on how to create a more welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ individuals in the game. Clubs can request a workshop on a date and time that suits them throughout February, aligning with the national FvH campaign.

Why Get Involved?

Football should be a game for everyone. By taking part in a workshop, clubs can:

  • Learn about the impact of homophobia in football
  • Understand how to promote inclusivity within their teams
  • Take steps to make their club a safe and welcoming space for all

How To Request A Workshop

Club officials can request a workshop by completing a short online form. The sessions are available free of charge to clubs across Lincolnshire.

  • Workshops available throughout February
  • Delivered at your club’s venue
  • Open to players, coaches, and club officials

What is Football v Homophobia?

FvH is an international initiative that exists to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression at all levels of football.

They want football to take a clear stand against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia so that everyone can enjoy the beautiful game and that football leads the way in removing anti-LGBTIQ+ discrimination and prejudice.

Football v Homophobia was originally conceived and launched in 2010 by the Justin Campaign. A small voluntary-run group, the Justin Campaign was founded in 2008 to demonstrate that 10 years after Justin Fashanu's tragic suicide, homophobia was still hugely prevalent in both grassroots and professional football.

Along with raising awareness, the campaign had a strong focus on art, events and education through football.

In 2012, LGBT+ sports development and equity organisation Pride Sports joined with the Justin Campaign to help deliver Football v Homophobia, and in 2014, the organisation took over the delivery of the campaign altogether.

Whilst the campaign receives wide-ranging support throughout football, core funding for Football v Homophobia is sought on a year-by-year basis.

Grassroots clubs can sign up and designate a game to the campaign. All clubs taking part will:

  • Be named on the Football v Homophobia #FvH2025 Champions Page
  • Receive educational leaflets (appropriate to the age of your players)
  • Access discounts on campaign merchandise, such as flags & captains armbands
  • Have access to FREE webinars on how to make your club LGBTQ+ inclusive

Let’s work together to make grassroots football in Lincolnshire a game for everyone!
