Lincoln City To Host Black History Month Event With Lincolnshire FA

On Sunday 20th October, the Branston Legends Lounge will host a Black History Month art exhibition and panel

As part of our commitment to promoting equality and celebrating diversity, Lincolnshire FA is proud to partner with Lincoln City Football Club to honour Black History Month this October.

Together, we are excited to present an exclusive event that highlights the significance of Black heritage, culture, and narratives in our community.

The celebration kicks off during City’s home match against Birmingham City on Saturday 19th October, where Lincoln City will promote the EFL’s Together Against Racism campaign. This initiative aims to unite fans, players, and clubs in the fight against racism, demonstrating our shared commitment to equality both on and off the pitch.

The festivities continue on Sunday 20th October, with a special event in the Branston Legends Lounge. Join us for a Black History Month art exhibition and panel discussion, in collaboration with Lincoln Embracing All Nations, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, and Lincolnshire FA. This event will showcase local artistic talent and provide a platform for discussing important themes around heritage and identity.

We are thrilled to announce that the panel will feature City defender Tendayi Darikwa, alongside former Imps legends Jason Lee and Gavin Gordon, as well as grassroots referee Michael Howard. Each of these individuals brings a unique perspective on their heritage and experiences, contributing to a rich discussion about what Black History Month means to them.

Tendayi, a Zimbabwean international, has been a key player for the Imps since joining this summer. With 13 international caps to his name and an impressive career that has taken him from Conference North to the Premier League, he is a prime example of the talent and dedication found in our sport.

Jason Lee, who played for the Imps from 1991 to 1993, netted 21 goals during his time with the club and has since become a leading figure in promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion within football. As an executive for the Professional Footballers’ Association, Jason has worked tirelessly to advocate for these essential values in our sport.

Gavin Gordon, who represented the Imps from 1997 to 2000, scored 32 goals in 114 appearances and continues to be actively involved with the club as chairman of the Former Players’ Association. His insights as an expert summariser for Radio Lincolnshire make him a well-known figure in the community.

This event is free of charge, but pre-booking is essential due to limited capacity. Doors will open at 2pm, with the discussion starting at 2:30pm. Attendees will also have the opportunity to watch the Wolves v Manchester City match afterwards in the Legends Lounge.
