Restart A Heart Month: Scunthorpe United Learn CPR With RevivR

The entire first team squad at Scunthorpe United took part in CPR training at the Attis Arena, led by Melanie from the British Heart Foundation.

Last week, the entire first team squad at Scunthorpe United took part in CPR training at the Attis Arena, led by Melanie from the British Heart Foundation. This vital session helped players learn how to save lives in the event of a cardiac arrest, a skill that could one day prove essential in an emergency.

The training was part of the wider Restart a Heart campaign, which returns this October 2024, aiming to equip more people across the UK with the knowledge and confidence to perform CPR. Lincolnshire FA will be working with both our pro-clubs and grassroots clubs to utilise RevivR this month for players, coaches, parents, and volunteers to learn life-saving CPR

Learn CPR in 15 minutes with RevivR

In Lincolnshire, survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests remain alarmingly low, with only 1 in 16 people surviving. Nationally, the survival rate is also worrying, with fewer than 1 in 10 people surviving a cardiac arrest that happens outside of a hospital setting. This is why initiatives like Restart a Heart are so crucial—they help increase public awareness and ensure more people know how to act quickly in a life-threatening situation.

RevivR, an innovative 15-minute online CPR training program, is one of the key tools used in this campaign. It’s easy, free, and all you need is a mobile device and a cushion to practise on. This quick session shows you when and how to perform CPR, providing the confidence to potentially save a life.

This October, Restart a Heart events will take place all over the country, offering both in-person and digital training sessions to encourage as many people as possible to learn CPR and defibrillation techniques. The campaign culminates on Restart a Heart Day, October 16th, when people across the world will unite to promote CPR training and resuscitation awareness.

According to a survey of 3,000 football fans, 44% have been in situations where someone around them required CPR, but an alarming 42% had never been trained in the technique. Even more concerning, 45% admitted they would not feel confident performing CPR if needed. RevivR is designed to address these gaps by offering accessible and quick training that anyone can complete from the comfort of their own home.

Restart a Heart aims to train 270,000 people in CPR this year—equivalent to filling Wembley Stadium three times over. Whether you’re a football fan, a coach, a player, or just someone who wants to be prepared for a medical emergency, this campaign is your chance to learn the skills needed to save lives.

To support the Restart a Heart campaign, watch videos, download resources, or take part in the RevivR training, visit the British Heart Foundation’s website. Together, we can make a difference in improving survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.

Learn CPR. Act fast. Save lives.

Luke Craggs, Football Development Officer (Male Pathway), said: "We hope no one will ever need to use CPR, but knowing how to act in an emergency can be the difference between life and death. Initiatives like Restart a Heart empower individuals with the skills and confidence to step in and save lives when it matters most, and BHF's RevivR app allows people to learn this valuable skill. Thank you to everyone at Scunthorpe United for taking part in the campaign, something we hope to see many of our club's also engage in this month".
