Choose Respect: Lincolnshire FA Supports Anti-Bullying Week 2024

Lincolnshire FA is proud to support Anti-Bullying Week 2024, taking place from Monday, 11th to Friday, 15th November.

In grassroots football, respect, inclusivity, and safety are core values that matter just as much off the pitch as they do on it. These values shape a welcoming environment for all, promote fair play, and build a foundation of mutual respect within clubs. That’s why Lincolnshire FA is proud to support Anti-Bullying Week 2024, taking place from Monday, 11th to Friday, 15th November.

This year’s theme, Choose Respect, invites everyone involved in grassroots football to make the positive choice to respect others, especially in moments of disagreement or challenge.

Odd Socks Day: Celebrate Uniqueness

On Tuesday, 12th November, children and adults alike are encouraged to take part in Odd Socks Day, a playful yet meaningful way to celebrate what makes each of us unique. Wearing odd socks is a simple way for everyone in the community to show their commitment to fostering a respectful environment and to embrace individuality. Clubs, teams, players, coaches, and supporters are encouraged to join in the fun — snap a picture of your odd socks and tag Lincolnshire FA on social media!

Why Choose Respect?

Following consultation with teachers and pupils, the Anti-Bullying Alliance chose this theme to empower children and adults alike to focus on respect as an antidote to bullying, especially in difficult moments. Building on the momentum of the 2023 campaign, which reached over 7.5 million children and young people, this year’s Anti-Bullying Week aims to expand its impact even further. In classrooms, homes, online spaces, and on pitches across the country, the message is clear: choosing respect is a choice we all can make, every day.

Imagine a world where kindness and understanding are our default — this vision is within reach, but only with intention and effort from everyone involved.

How clubs can get involved

There are many ways for clubs to Choose Respect during Anti-Bullying Week:

  • Spread the Message: Share posts and information on social media to encourage a culture of kindness and acceptance.
  • Lead by Example: Remind adults, including coaches, parents, and spectators, to set a positive example both online and offline.
  • Wear Odd Socks: Celebrate Odd Socks Day and invite club members to join in throughout the week.
  • Share Resources: Equip parents and carers with anti-bullying resources and information.
  • Promote the FA Grassroots Code: Reinforce the FA Grassroots Code, which encourages young players to show respect and inclusivity in all they do.
